Behind the Scenes of Jerry Seinfeld's BEE MOVIE:
The Joys of Making
a Wonderful Gift to Children

If there is one movie in my lifetime that I think of when I consider 20th Century Fox, it would be THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Before the camera zooms in on Julie Andrews singing on the mountaintops 20th Century Fox proudly presents its animated company logo with the waving spotlights and the majestic music.

This evening I screened a vile 20th Century Fox comedy called THE COMEBACKS but I showed up just early enough to catch the end of a Fox trailer for ALIENS VS PREDATOR: REQUIEM. This gruesome horror show is being released on Christmas day and the trailer features scenes of indescribable horror put to the tune of a Christ-centered Christmas carol. The final graphic on the trailer reads something like ”There will be no peace this Christmas.“

Imagine such a trailer running in Saudi Arabia with the line "There will be no peace this Ramadan" or in Jerusalem saying "There will be no peace this Channukah." How about "There will be no peace this black history month?" Why does Hollywood think it's acceptable to offend millions of Christians when they would not dream of doing the same to other religious or ethnic groups? What's with the attempt to make Christmas into another Halloween? Last year BLACK CHRISTMAS opened on Christmas day featuring a murderer who killed women and ate their eyes. This year Hollywood's Christmas "gift" is even more unspeakable horror.

Strangely, only Walt Disney Pictures has figured out that their company can benefit from maintaining a moral quality standard. While Walt was alive the name Disney stood for family entertainment. The company is now returning to that standard. The other studios think they can mix garbage with greatness and profit from both.

With one hand you slap Christians across the face and with the other you offer a handshake. You can put out ALIENS VS PREDATOR on Christmas day and then hope you can get Christians out to see MAMA, I WANT TO SING (an upcoming Fox Faith movie).

Sure, you can pretend that every movie stands completely on its own, but studio reputations do matter. More importantly, studio philosophy matters. 20th Century Fox gained tremendous respect and good will when it released THE SOUND OF MUSIC. Fox executives could hold their head high and proudly sit with anyone in a screening of that classic. It must be an embarrassment to admit you gave a green light to such garbage as THE COMEBACKS. The executive that gives a go to such horrors as ALIENS VS PREDATOR should have constant nightmares (even in the daytime).

Being a Hollywood executive is about more than just making money. Executives are human beings. They are accountable to God and humanity for their decisions. MOVIEGUIDE® has shown time and again that doing what's right is good for the bottom line, but even if it weren't, there are times an executive should say "no" to a project simply because the project is immoral trash. You can make high quality inspiring movies and make a fortune. In the process you will gain a reputation you can be proud of. On the other hand, you can produce a mix of good and garbage. Some of your garbage may even make money, but you will go to bed at night knowing you made money by behaving just like a pimp or drug dealer. You sought a profit satisfying the worst desires of human nature. You fed desires that ruin people's lives - desires that sometimes lead to tragedy.

Hollywood has a horrible reputation around the world. American movies lead many to consider the United States "The Great Satan." In the United States itself, many people will not go to theaters because they consider them evil. Go into your typical multiplex theater and it looks evil. The huge lobby displays for the next ten horror shows look like ads for Hell itself. Is it any wonder theater attendance continues to decline?
